Between The Lines

Charmed Circle

WRITTEN IN THE ORDER: KATHRYN, KATE, SARAH, MAYA

"The story of the "charmed circle" is one that dates back to the very beginning of New Salem.  In 1682, a group of three women fled the trials and burnings occuring in Salem and established themselves here, in New Salem.  As time went on, other people moved to New Salem, but tales began to spread about the 3 women who lived at the top of the hill.  It was whispered in the streets that they were witches; that they could fly on broomsticks, and curse your children.  In time the women were outcasts, and it wasn't long before the head of the church, Mister Todd Lockley, led a party to their house to capture the women and try them for witchcraft.  All 3 women were captured, and burned at the stake.  However!  Some people say they never really died.  That night at the last instant, a wolf, a falcon and a large cat appeared in the town square, and when people looked back at the stakes, the witches were gone."
Irene looked around at the bored faces of her class and sighed.  History was such a difficult subject to teach when the students had no interest in the subject.  She, of course, knew the stories were true.  There was one way she could open the eyes of these insolent children, but that had been expressly forbidden.  Irene peered around the room.
"And they were never seen again," she tried to capture the attention of the students in vain.
The bell rang, signifying the end of the day, and then students ran out of the classroom, leaving it in an untidy mess.  Irene didn't have time to clean today.  She was meeting her two closest friends, the wolf and the panther, in little less than half and hour.  With a negligent wave of her hand, Irene swept out of the classroom, the room righted itself in the wake of the falcon.

***

On the other side of town, Kate waited for the others to arrive.  Her familiar, a large cat that rather strongly resembled a panther, was waiting for her in the bushes.  People tended to frighten easily in New Salem, especially after listening to one of Irene's speaches.  She heard the soft pad of paws behind her, and turned.  ?On the thick grass stood a wolf, streaked with silver, and beside it, with one hand resting in its thick fur was a woman.  Kate grinned.
"Long time, no see."
The woman inclined her head.
"Well, Kathryn, care for a cup of tea before Irene arrives?  She'll be late, of course."
Kathryn moved forwards and accepted a biscuit, while Kate poured tea from a thermos.
"I always think brewed tea tastes better than that magic stuff..." Kate chattered.

***

Irene sat uncomfortably at the traffic lights, feeling sorry for herself.  Her job was unfulfilling, her pay meger and she hated driving.
"Give me a broomstick any day," she muttered.
The lights changed and Irene took off, pulling up some minutes later at the McCrae Park.  She then leapt from the seat and strode out across the park, trailed by a flock of doves.

***

As Irene was thumping through the park, a girl sat, pondering over her books.  She heard a car pull up outside and leapt up, throwing open the front door.
"Mum!  Mum!"
"Yes, Loan?"
"In class today, Ms Stamp spoke of the "charmed circle".  Remember you were telling me all about it?  About the evil?  Our sworn enemies?  Well, Ms Stamp didn't mention that.  She sounded like she admired them!"
"Really."  A curious look passed across her mother's face.  "I think we shall have to investigate this Ms Stamp.  What did you say her first name was?"

***

By the time Irene reached Kate and Kathryn, birds of all species followed her.  A falcon perched on her shoulder.  Kate stepped forward to embrace her.
"Must you always be followed by birds?" Kathryn inquired, smiling.
Irene laughed.  "Shoo!" she said, and the birds scattered.  "Now, what are we meeting about, ladies?"
"Well..." Kate began, but got no further as Kathryn's wolf leapt forward, growling, and dragged something from the bushes.
"A body!" Kathryn cried.
It was indeed a body, even if a very small one, and the body was dead.
"It's a midget," Irene said.  "Is there identification?"
Kate reached forwards and found a wallet.  She opened the midget's wallet and read a name off a Blockbuster video card.
"Maya Muthuswamy..."

***

?Meanwhile, Loan's mother Mrs Ariel was in the New Salem library investigating Irene Stamp.  "Oh my goodness!" she exclaimed "This woman has no birth record in New Salem or anywhere else for that matter."  Mrs Ariel logged off the internet and swiveled in her chair to face the window.  She looked out onto the street, a sinister look clouding her usually merry face.
"I'm going to find out about this woman and what evil designs she has on our town!"

***

"Car 47, car 47 please report to the town square.  There's trouble developing concerning a young man and woman outside the 2nd Hand Book store."
"Ten four." Replied the police officer, starting the car and heading towards the centre of town.
Upon reaching the town square, the police officer spotted the couple engrossed in a heated arguement.  As the police officer got out of the car, the arguement reached his ears but only snipets.
"She's my mother..."
"You can't trust her..."
"You shouldn't get mixed up with those type of people..."
?The police officer ran over to the two, "Hey, break it up!  That's enough!  Now, what's the problem here?"
"This man is insulting my mother, and calling her a... a witch!" Loan cried.
"I never said she was a witch, I just said she shouldn't get involved with witchcraft and witches, that's all, it will endanger her," Matt said, calming down, "I care about you, and your mother, I don't want to see you get hurt."  Matt blushed.  "Ok, I think I can leave you two alone now," the police officer, Sergeant Darren said, and walked off.

***

Meanwhile, back in the park, the 3 witches were looking through the dead midget's wallet.  "Hold on, all these other cards say Matthew Morrison - the Visa card, the driver's licence, the library card," Irene said.
"What about this one that says Maya Muthuswamy though?" questioned Kat.
Kate replied, "I know, this midget stole Maya's video card -" Irene stopped her, and pulled out a whole stack of cards from another section of the wallet, "Look, heaps and heaps of Blockbuster cards!  All with different names.  Matthew Morrison must have been a video card stealer!"
"Yep, that's it!  Irene, you're so smart," said the other two, in awe of Irene's genius.
"Well, I am a teacher," Irene said, very pleased with herself.
"Now, to continue with our meeting, and the real reason we came her today..."?
"Wait just a minute," said Kate.  "We have just discovered a body.  We need to call the police."
"I agree," said Kat.  "But first, I think you," she turned to her wolf, "should go home.  Let's continue our meeting tonight, at my house."
"Good idea.  I'll take the animals out of the town, and you two call the police," said Irene.
Kate and Kat exchanged looks.
"I think they will be fine by themselves, Irene."

***

Sergent Darren looked at the 3 women standing to one side of the roped-off crime-scene.
"So did you touch anything?"
The woman who had identified herself as Kat, spoke.
"We saw a large dog pull it out of the bushes," she explained.  "Kate here took the wallet we gave you from the body."
"I see," Sergent Darren said.  "The body appears to have been a sacrifice of some kind ~ there are all sorts of strange symbols on the ground and on the body..." he trailed off.
Irene looked slightly nausious.  Sergent Darren looked concerned.
"Are you all right, ma'am?" he inquired politely.
"Yes," Irene replied, "I just don't see many dead bodies.  I am a school teacher."
"If you three ladies could come with me to the station, we have a few more questions to ask you."
"Certainly," Kate replied.  "We would be happy to."

***

Hours later, the three witches left the station.
"The nerve of that man!" Kate exploded.  "Fancy, suspecting *us* of sacrificing that awful midget."
"They identified the body.  It *was* Maya Muthuswamy, she had stolen Matthew Morrison's wallet," said Kat.
"Then she deserved her fate," said Kate cruelly.  "I have no time for thieves."
"He had already stolen her video card," pointed out Irene, gently.
"That's beside the point!"
Kat broke in to defuse the arguement.
"I am going home.  I will see you two about 7:00?"  She waited for agreement, before walking into the bushes and vanishing.

***

Hours later, Kat was watching her Mexican Walking Fish, whose name was, coincidently, also Maya, walk across the table towards the waiting jaws of the wolf.  Kat saved it just in time.  The wolf gave her a faintly reproachful look.  Just then, there was a tap on the back door, and the litter of wolf cubs who had been sitting by the fire burst into a chorus of barking.
Kat opened the door to reveal a large black cat.
"Hello, Paul-Simon.  Is Kate coming?"
The cat growled, and the wolf cubs shrank back to the fire.  Paul-Simon came in, and greeted the wolf, then turned back to Kat, as Kate appeared at the door, broomstick in hand.
"It's such a nice night for flying," she said, hair wild.  "I passed Irene on the way here, she should be here shortly."
?"Good." Kathryn shut the door behind Kate and followed her into the sitting room.

***

As darkness fell, Loan drew the curtains in her room and locked the door.  She sat cross-legged on the floor before a bowl of water, and let her hair down.  Shutting her eyes, Loan called out.  "Sarah?"

***

Irene, as per usual, was late, arriving at 7.20, with her beloved falcon, Edward, perched on her gloved fist.  As she sat before Kathryn's warm fire, Irene regarded her fellow witches curiously.
"So, are you finally going to tell me what we're meeting about?  It's not just because you two adore me, is it?"
"Well, that, yes," Kate laughed.  "But seriously, have you noticed the unrest lately?  There is evil afoot."

***

Loan opened her eyes and stared at the beautiful young woman whose image appeared in the water.
"Hello, Loan."
"Sarah!"  Loan grinned.  "I have been investigating the evil you spoke of," she continued, sobering.  "It truely is horrific.  My mother believes that the "charmed circle" are responsible, and that a woman, known only as Irene Stamp, is one of the members of this group."
Sarah shook her head.
"Child, you have been listening to too many stories.  The "charmed circle" has never been an evil influence.  Quite the contrary, in fact."

***

In a small, mostly unknown area named Strathcona, an evil figure dressed in red performed the second ritual sacrifice of seven.?
Happy that it was out of the way, Courtney dumped the limp body into a few nearby bushes and smiled.
"2 down, 5 to go!"

***

Mrs Ariel slowly peeled the last potato for Loan and her dinner.  Mrs Ariel was unhappy with her daughter's involvement with Matt Campbell.  She sensed that his relationship with her was beginning to build a wall between herself and Loan.
"I'll have to do something about that boy." she spoke softly, a cruel smile twisting her lips.  A knock at the door broke into her thoughts.  She opened it to find Courtney on her doorstep.
"Hi, sis!" smiled Courtney and walked in.  She removed her coat and pulled her red mini-skirt a little further down her thighs.  She sat down at the kitchen bench.
"I just finished the 2nd sacrifice." Courtney said.
"Oh, was it good?"
"Not bad, but I think I got a ladder in my stockings." Courtney sighed.
"Poor thing." Mrs Ariel patted her sister's hand in sympathy.  "Oh, here comes Loan.  Remember she doesn't know about this so don't say anything."
"Okay, okay." replied Courtney.
"Is dinner ready, Mum?... oh, hi Aunt Courtney!"
"How was your day?" Asked Courtney.
?Loan looked down, "Well, Matt and I had a big fight.  He was being so stupid - he was suggesting that you were a witch, Mum!  How idiotic!"  Mrs Ariel's eyes darted nervously, "Oh, of course.  How silly.  Remember, Irene Stamp is the one we should be suspecting."  Mrs Ariel and Courtney exchanged a nervous glance.  "You said yourself that she thought the Charmed Circle were good!"  Mrs Ariel said.  "Huh!  We all know how evil the Charmed Circle are, don't we Loan?" said Courtney.  Loan muttered, "I guess so.  But Ms Stamp seems so nice..."
"She's not - she's evil!" exclaimed her mother, "Just accept it!"
Loan looked at her mother and aunt, wondering why they were acting so strange.

***

Meanwhile, in a pool of water somewhere, Sarah the spirit sat talking with her brother, Matt (also a water spirit).
"So, any luck with Loan, Matt?"  Sarah asked.
Matt sighed, "Well, I've been slowly getting her trust for 3 months, and today when I finally suggested to her to be careful of hr mother and aunt, she blew up at me!  I'm not very successful at being a human."
Sarah looked at him, "Well, this is your first experience at being human - it gets easier, trust me."
"Maybe I should change into something other than a human?" Matt asked.
"Mmm, maybe.  But we have to do something and quick, before Loan succumbs to her evil mother and aunt."?
Sarah smiled.  "I think you underestimate Loan.  Her spirit is very strong, and I have great faith in her ability to withstand her mother and Aunt."
"I hope so," said Matt.  "I am worried about her.  Her mother is very evil."
"I know, Matt, but there is not much else we can do."
A gentle tinkling sound came from the pool of water, and Sarah turned towards it, saying, "I will talk to you later.  Someone is calling me.  Watch over Loan."
"I will, sister.  Talk to you later."
Sarah focused her attention on the pool, and Matt vanished.

***

In the back garden of Kat's house, the 'charmed circle' sat around the scrying pool.  With them were Maya the mexcian walking fish, Edward the falcon, Paul-Simon the panther, Wolf the wolf, and the wolf cubs.  One of the cubs went a little too close to the pool, and Kat growled quietly.  It scampered back and Kat returned her attention to the pool.  "I thought you were going to drown them," said Kate with a glance at the cubs.  Kat shrugged.  "I couldn't do it.  Again, I know.  Just concentrate on Sarah."
As Kat said this, Sarah appeared in the pool, looking as lovely as ever.
"Greetings, Charmed ones," she said.
"Greetings, Sarah," spoke the 3 witches.  "We have called you for guidence.  There is evil afoot, and we know not where to look."
Sarah smiled, and said, "Know that the evil is not yet fully released.  5 more sacrifices must be made.  The people doing the sacrifices must be stopped, however.  There is one that can lead you to these people... but know that this person is but a child, and unaware of both the power she posesses, and the evil intent in her house."
"So it is a she!" exclaimed Irene.
"Yes.  My brother, Matt, is watching over her.  Already Irene has met this child, and soon she will realise this young girl's powers.  Until then, watch and be wary."  With that, Sarah vanished into the depths of the pool.

***

In her room, with the door locked, Loan once again summoned Sarah.  She had been greatly disturbed by the behaviour of her Aunt and mother, and felt the need to discuss their actions with someone wise.  Sarah was just the person.  Sarah appeared flimsy and unsubstancial in the water.
"Yes, Loan?"
"Are you alright?"
"I'm just tired.  What is wrong?"
"It's my Mother and Aunt Courtney.  They were both acting very strange..." and Loan recounted the story of what had happened.  Sarah looked pensive.  "Well, Loan... ?there is a lot in this world that is foul, and there is much that cannot be trusted.  Things are not always what they seem."
"Don't be cryptic," Loan complained.  "Please, just tell me what to do."
"No," Sarah sighed.  "At this point in time, ignorance is safest.  But Loan, follow your heart.  Those who you trust now may become the ones who do you the most harm..."

***

Irene watched her students do their test, her mind flitting.  After speaking to Sarah, the witches had designated tasks.  Kate had taken it upon herself to investigate recent deaths in similar circumstances, as she had many friends in low places.  Kathryn, always the historian, was to discover just what evil would be released when seven sacrifices were made.  And Irene was to investigate the child.  If the child was known to her, Irene surmirsed that it must be one of her students.  They were all so stupid!  So inept!  How could they be powerful?
Irene checked her watch.  15 minutes to go.  She sighed, and suddenly it came to her.  It was Jessica!  Such an enthusiastic, intelligent child.
After the test, Irene drew Jessica aside.
"Jessica, have you ever noticed that odd things happen when you're around?"

***

Loan plodded home after a disappointing history test.  She stared at the ground.  Suddenly there was a hand on her shoulder.
"No!" she screamed.
And the world stopped.

***

Irene, driving home in her car after giving Jessica her phone number, started.
"Some one's playing with time," she noted, glancing around.
One of her students, Loan, stood on the footpath, staring at a young man.  Irene pulled over, her heart leaping.
"Loan," she cried.  "Are you alright?"
"Oh, Ms Stamp.  Hi.  Meet Matt."
"Matt?"  Irene laughed.  "Hello, Matt.  Do you have a sister?  Sarah's her name."
Matt stared.
Irene continued.  "You look shocked, Loan.  Are you okay, dear?"
In her mind, Irene was overjoyed.  "I've found her," she thought.?

***

Courtney creeped up to Kat's house and peered in.
"Good, no one's home." She thought.
After stealing the police report on the midget's murder, Courtney had found that Sergent Darren had suspected Irene Stamp, Kathryn Pollard and Kate Porter of the crime.  Courtney deduced that these three could be the "charmed ones" that might threaten the developement of her and her sister's plan.  Now she was at Kat's house to see if any evidence could be found to prove her theory.
She picked the lock with a bobby pin and slithered into the house...
Half an hour later, Courtney had yet to find anything.
Suddenly she caught sight of Kat's mexcian-walking fish.
"Ah, ha!" she cried "You will tell me what I want to know"  Waving her hands flamboyantly and muttering something under her breath, Courtney stamped her feet and turned Maya from a fish into a ?normal human being or at least that's what was supposed to happen.  Instead, with a puff of smoke, the fish disappeared and in its place was a very small elephant!  "What?" yelled Courtney, "You're meant to be a person1  Oh no, you'll never be able to -"  But Maya cut her off, "Relax Courtney, I can talk!  At least that part of your spell worked.  I can dance too, want to see?"  Courtney muttered, "Uh, no thanks.  Now," in a stern voice, "Come with me to see my sister.  We want to find out about the charmed circle."
Maya thought for a moment, "Ok, got nothing better to do" and plodded off after Courtney to see Mrs Ariel.

***

Meanwhile, Kate was investigating deaths similar to the 2 already murdered.  She was down at the police station talking with Seargent Darren.
"Look, I've told you I cannot give out any details of any crimes!  It's confidential, okay?  Now get out of here!" Darren said, exasperated.
"Oh, please?  Pretty please?  Look, you'd better tell me what I need to know, or else."  Kate said, hinting at what could happen.
But Darren was rather slow, "Huh?  Or else what?  Look lady, I've got work to do," and turned away to face his computer.
Kate sighed, "Alright, I've got no choice," she said and with a wave of her hand, turned Darren into a snail.  She went into his office, rummaged around for a while, and finally found what she was looking for, a file called "MIDGET MURDERS".  She turned, and gasped.  "What... what are you doing here?"?
"Oh, I don't know," said the pink elephant in the doorway.  "I was on my way to Courtney's sister's house, when I thought I should let Kat know where I was.  Do you know where she is?"
"Maya?  Is that you?" Kate looked shocked.
"Of course.  Do you know where Kat is?"
"Um... come with me, and we'll go look for her.  But first, let me photocopy this file."
"Ok," Maya agreed cheerfully, starting to eat her way through the jar of peanuts that were for guests.
Kate quickly made a copy of the file and placed the original back in the filing cabinet.  As she and the elephant left the building, Darren turned back into a human.  He looked around in astonishment.
"No choice about what?"
But Kate was gone.

***

Back at Mrs. Ariel's house, Courtney was fuming.  The elephant had been following her quite tamely, when she had glanced around to see that ti had vanished somewhere along the way.  This had upset Courtney greatly, and she was busy throwing Mrs. Ariel's plates and coffee cups at the wall, whilst swearing energetically.  Mrs. Ariel arrived home to find her kitchen in disaray, and Courtney in the middle of the mess, swearing a blue streak.
"What is going on here?" demanded Mrs. Ariel in a dangerously calm voice.
Courtney explained at some length.
"Oh, shush," said Mrs. Ariel.  "We both know these things happen."
But Courtney would not be quietened.  She continued to rage, until Mrs. Ariel was forced to take steps.  With a few hastily muttered words, she turned Courtney into a crab.
"There," she said in satisfaction.  "I never did like you anyway, and if you weren't my sister and so useful in performing ritual sacrifices, I would have made you into a crab dip a long time ago."
Mrs. Ariel put Courtney into an ice-cream container and punched air-holes in the lid, then began to gather the ingredients for her crab dip.  She continued to talk to the crab, however.
"Of course, I will have to complete the last 5 sacrifices myself.  But it's a small price to pay.  I wonder where I will find 5 more midgets in New Salem..."
Unbeknownst to Mrs. Ariel, her daughter, Loan, was standing behind the kitchen door and had heard everything.  Miss Stamp had driven her home, so she was home much earlier than expected.  Obviously her mother had no reason to believe Loan would be home so soon, as time had only re-started 10 minutes before.  In shock, Loan crept away from her house to pay a visit on Miss Stamp.

***

Deep in the under ground chambers of her house, Kat was going through the books in her extensive library, searching for mentions of an evil that required a sacrificed midget, or so.  She had had no luck thus far.  Far above her, Kate and the pink elephant Maya entered the back door.
"Kat!" called Kate and Maya together "Are you home?"
?Kat, being underground and therefore unable to hear them, said nothing at all.
"I guess nobody's home."
Kate and Maya sat down with the wolf pups to wait.  One extremely energetic pup decided that Maya bore a resemblance to a pink candy, and Kate prudently put Maya on a table out of harms way.
"That's Jade," Maya supplied.

***

Mrs Ariel, in the process of boiling water to cook Courtney, listened to the television.  The cast of 'Austin Powers II' was doing a promotional tour of New Salem.
"Wasn't there a midget in that?" Mrs Ariel mused.

***

Loan walked to Irene's house in tears.  On The Eyrie she heard someone calling her name and turned to see Matt running towards her.
"Hey!  What's up?" he called.  "Where are you going?"
Loan waited until he caught up and then mumbled, "I have to see my teacher."
"Ms Stamp?" Matt asked.
"Yeah."
"Good.  I have to see her too!"

***

Mrs Ariel and an icecream container containing Courtney arrived at the official hotel of the Austin Power's cast.  Mrs Ariel totted in boldly, looking for all the world as if she belonged there.  She observed the staff and then stepped into a telephone booth.  When she emerged, she was dressed as a staff member.
"Time to find midget number 3".

***

Kathryn came bouncing up the stairs excitedly and threw open the door.
"Hey, what are you doing here, Kate?  And where'd you get that cool elephant?"
Kate shrugged.
"I found some information..."
"Oh, me too!  It's fantastic!  I found out what's going on and it's fantastic!"
"Ritual sacrafices lead to something fantastic?" queried Maya.
"Well, no..." Kathryn slowed down.  "But it is important.  When seven midgets... and it has to be midgets... are sacrificed, the release of ?
a giant, furry koala occurs.  The koala is at the bidding of the person who performed the sacrifices, and who knows what terrors the person will get it to do to our town.  Unfortunately, the diet of the koala consists of gum leaves, lemon slice, hazelnut chocolate and small, pink elephants.  I'm sorry, Maya."  Maya blanched from pink to white.
"We have to stop the five sacrifices before the horrible creature is released." she cried.

***

Irene picked up the phone receiver just about to call Kate and Kat and tell them she had found the child when there was a knock on the door.
She answered it and there stood Loan and Matt.  Irene noticed Loan's tear-stained eyes and pulled the child into her embrace.
"What is it, my dear?"
Loan told Irene and Matt what she overheard of her mother's involvement in the ritual sacrifices.
Matt patted Loan's shoulder comfortingly.
"At least now you know."
"Yes... why didn't I believe you?"
Suddenly, Sarah appeared beside them in human form.  Her beauty was too blinding for Loan and Irene's eyes and they were forced to blink several times.
"Quick, we must hurry to the Sheridan Hotel.  Your mother is about the perform the third sacrifice."

***

?Meanwhile, Kat and Kate and Maya were rushing to the Sheridan also.  Kat and Kate looked rather puffed, so Maya generously offered them a lift, since she wasn't that small.  They hopped on her strong, supple back and Maya powered off to the Sheridan in no time at all.  In fact, just as they arrived, so did Ms Stamp with Loan and the 2 water spirits, Matt and Sarah.
"Hello!" said everyone to everyone.
"Quick!" someone said, and the whole mob of them rushed inside, but were stopped.
"Now wait a minute there, people," said Sgt Darren, "This area is - What the..."
His jaw dropped as he noticed the 2 ladies siting on the pink elephant.
"Stop staring, would you, it's very rude," Maya said.
"But... but you're..." Sgt Darren said.  Maya cut in with, "Yeah, I'm part of Austin Powers 2, didn't you know?  I'm Dr Evil's new pet, he adopted me after I ate Mr Bigglesworth.  Now let us through!"
"Okay, you can go through, but not all of you people," Darren conceded.
"But they're my fans!  They have to be let through!"
"Oh... alright then, but only 2 of them, and NO BUTS!" Darren said.
At that moment, Sarah the beautiful spirit in human form sidled up to Darren.
"Why, hello there," she said seductively.
Darren yelled out, "Aaagh!  I'm blinding by your beauty!  Help me!", and covered his eyes with his hands.
So everyone ran through into the hotel, Sarah standing in front of Darren in case he looked again.?

Once everyone had got out of sight, Matt called to Sarah to join them.
"I'll catch up.  This one's kinda cute..."
"Now, Sarah."
Reluctantly, Sarah moved up the stairs to where the others were waiting.
They were waiting for Loan to explain what she had heard.  When she had completed her story, the group crept along the passage to the room belonging to mini-me.
"Ready?" whispered Kate.  "Now!"
Maya the pink elephant burst the door open to reveal Mrs. Ariel standing next to a bound and gaged midget.  Just as the door burst open, Mrs. Ariel killed the midget.  At the same instant, Loan froze time, and the charmed circle joined hands and turned Mrs. Ariel into a spider.  Loan rushed forward and put a glass over it.  Matt and Sarah, being water-spirits, were unaffected by Loan's power.
"Well," said Sarah.  "That was easy."
"Never say that!" exclaimed Irene.
Just then, Loan found the ice-cream container containing Courtney.
"What are we going to do with these two?" she asked
Kat looked at her, holding the spider protectively, and smiled gently.
"You just found your familiar, dear."
Loan looked shocked.
"Let's get out of here.  We can meet at Kat's house."
"What about mini-me?"
"There's nothing we can do..."

***

The aftermath of the murder of mini-me was great.  The casting agency of Austin Powers 2 had replaced Mini-me with Maya the talking pink elephant.  Sarah had started dating Sgt. Darren, resuming her human form almost permantly.  Loan had moved in with Kat, and the 'charmed circle' was teaching her to control the power she had been born with.  She was also seeing Matt and her familiar, Mrs. Ariel, had grown acustomed to being as spider.  Courtney had been turned into a delicious crab dip, which the charmed circle had enjoyed enormously.

THE END
